Reassessing Coal in Islamic Finance
Developed in partnership with Greenpeace MENA as part of the Ummah For Earth Alliance, this paper draws upon parallels between the jurisprudential treatment of tobacco and the ethical considerations surrounding coal, focusing on the re-evaluating Islamic finance screening methodologies. Having shared the executive summary in Dubai in October, the full paper was launched at COP30 in Belém, Brazil on Monday 17 November.
Alternative Student Finance
The UKIFC has been selected by the UK Government to support the development of the Department for Education’s new Alternative Student Finance (ASF) product. Our most recent engagement is being appointed as the secretariat for the Islamic Finance Supervisory Board which is tasked to ensure ASF is in line with Islamic finance principles. ASF offers faith-compliant support for students through a Takaful-based model, with income-based contributions replacing interest-bearing loans.
